Mycology, Meritocracy and Movement Diplomatically

A new bloom for Renasian Agriculture?
It seems that Renasian agriculture is moving ahead into an unusual but highly practical domain: mycology. With efforts in both Gishabrun and Renasian Proper to culture and grow mushrooms (in Gishabrun Pleurotaceae family, in Renasia Proper the Strophariaceae family), it seems that the possibility of a Renasian agricultural set up (which might look very different to those of other nations) is becoming very real.
It has been speculated we might soon see liquid cultures, cultivation boxes and similar mycogardens springing up across the nation. These developments, it is hoped, will bring forth knowledge which might later be applied to hydroponics, brewing, microbiological culturing and other interesting avenues of research. These, of course, are promising indicators of progress which will help bolster the economy and the expertise of citizens.

Meritocratic Register Act in works:
The Renasian hybrid system of democracy and meritocracy moves into the final stages of formalisation. In the next few weeks, the law which outlines how the meritocratic rating system is to be run will be drawn up an passed, ultimately determining how the Meritarch and Vice-Meritarch are to be picked for the general population.
This is thus one of the final pieces of the system, laid into place. More on this as it develops.

Tabula Rasa Passes, nation begins rebuild:
In the wake of the passing of the Tabula Rasa Act, a law which effectively unilaterally terminated all treaties with outsides states and nations, Renasia now is beginning to branch back out.
Re-establishing key diplomatic links with long-time allies like Sandus and St. Charlie, developing new ties with Sirocco and other nations, perhaps even the establishment of trade links within the UK to places like the USLSSR. Above all, this new system of diplomacy is to be rigidly archived and monitor, possibly with the creation of a foreign office.

Soon expect a new series of interviews asking the critical questions about Renasia’s development and future. Look for the title Interrogating…

Renasia Rising: SARs, Supreme Judges and SocraFed!

Getting to refocus the Locus:
Today the Renasian Locus, Renasia’s national paper, reopens its door for the first time in very nearly a year. What a year it has been! We’ve seen a mass of activity too long and complex to unwind, but highlights include:

  • The gaining of Gishabrun SAR after the loss of Monovia.
  • The attendance of PoliNation by several Renasians (though only two were at the time).
  • The creation of a new constitution and the instatement of the new political system we now refer to as the Guntanu’tl.

Ultimately, this paper had been neglected, not due to a lack of internal activity, but due to the plentiful nature of it. Ultimately, we became too busy with internal work to really tell you about it. So consider this our renewed statement of intent. From now on, the Locus brings you reliably regular Renasian reports.

Ready a mask, SARs inbound:
If we had a Pecune for everytime someone made a SARs/SARS joke we’d have bought a small island, like Iceland, by now. However, it should be noted, the number of SARs we have has grown drastically in the last month.
Beginning with Azehtyl in late February, followed by Kozuc on the first of this month, Renasia has expanded with explosive force. Undeniably, the necessary ‘binding energy’ for this arrangement is going to be a key focus for the Federal Government. However, having seen the early signs, I think the stability of this complex in fundamentally going to be higher than one might expect. It is by good fortune we find common cultural ground with our new SARs.

ACRE Act 2013 passes:
The ACRE Act 2013 has been passed by the Guntanu’tl. This act established an new political organ in Renasia, the Assembled Council of Regional Executives (ACRE). Compiled of representatives from each of Renasia’s regions, they will be tasked with producing advice on regional politics for the Guntanu’tl. They will be granted, too, with the power of ‘localisation’. Given an over fifty percent majority, localisation (the act of enforcing a bill’s prescriptions only in the Executive Regions which accept it, as opposed to Federal enforcement’) can be forced by the ACRE.

Supreme Judge nominations begin:
The filling of the Guntanu’tl will only serve to step up the pace of Renasian political life. To this end, the final position on the Guntanu’tl has today been opened to nomination. Thus far, it is projected the main candidates will come from Azehtyl and Kozuc, with Sam Krimmer affirming his nomination earlier today.

SocraFed: New Face of Renasian State Capitalism?
SocraFed, or more fully Socratic Federal Industries; an umbrella to cover the management of RenTech, KleinZav, Azehtyl’s state industries and possibly the Kozuc industries and speculated RenChem companies. An opt-in umbella corp, it would be set up to easily to manage the subsidiaries and even out capital produced to make sure all industries were able to thrive. Proponents suggest this could become the basis of a highly stable Renasian Federal economic community which would be a wonderful demonstration of Renasia’s fiscal fortitude.

As ever, more on these stories in the coming days, thanks for your attention. If you spot the hidden joke, ten points to you. It is, as you might expect, bold.

Cranking up the heat…

Charcoal down, Propane up to bat…
In Renasia’s continued foray into metallurgy, the intensity is being cranked up. With a new propane heat source, a graphite crucible which can withstand 3000 degrees celsius and a look to produce a set of coins, the showdown was set with a hard enemy to crack under such conditions, copper. It was a showdown between man and metal. And in the start, man took a convincing early lead…

Nearly there...

Copper Scrap at melting point

Crucible issues and heat flow galore
The blowtorch could not, however, heat the copper efficiently in the crucible and so an iron pot was used to allow for more simply heating. The copper soon melted into rivulets and pooled together. But this could not be counted as success. Now with a greater surface area not being heat, the copper cooled, and resolidified, refusing to remelt. Victory, it seemed, went to copper.

9 rolls of Renasian Casting Alloy

Setting a lower sight…
Renasia is thus setting it’s sights a little lower, introducing the use of Renasian Casting Alloy, a mix of silver, copper and tin. This will be the material used in casting and ceremonial pieces, including medals. The Pecune will be minted in it in the coming months.

Renasian Foundry Project: F-Alpha heats up, breaks down

And so it begins…
Yesterday, Sunday 16th of January, the first Renasian furnace, the F-Alpha, was lit for the first time. The furnace, made of two flowerpots separated by a plaster and cement ceramic refractory, reached temperatures of over 1000 degrees Celsius with the help of a standard hairdryer.

Pushed past breaking point…
The furnace, however, was not quite as robust as projected, and in fact, both inner and outer walls cracked during the heating process. The crucible, a simply steel can, suffered from intense brittleness after the heating, causing it to break up. This was due to carbon absorption from contact with the searing hot coals.

The furnace cooling down. Cracks in the inner and outer walls are clear on the left hand side

F-Beta, you are cleared for launch…
Following the F-Alpha’s lead, and learning for its mistakes, will come the F-Beta electric furnace. Designed to work hotter and cheaper than the F-Alpha, F-Beta will be rated for up to 1750 Celsius, will run off the standard electric plug, and deliver up to 2kW of energy to the sample. This will allow for easy melting of metals that were just barely melted by the F-Alpha, aluminium, silver, copper, and may open the gateway to cobalt, iron and titanium alloys being made.

To Economic Maturity: Commission Inaugural Meeting Today

Today, as part of the continued effort to raise the level of economic activity in our fine nation, Renasian Officials will meet with Sandum Officials, in order that they might begin the arduous process of forging a pact that should see the furthering of mutual goals in regards to the building of economies in both nations.
The Commission will be set to draw up the First Renasian-Sandum Economic Agreement, a document which bind the nations in reciprocal co-operation with regards to economic development.
Whilst this agreement comes early for Sandus, who plan to have an active economy by 2015, it could not come sooner for Renasia, as this year is designated as being of supreme importance in economic development, with the government hoping to have the economy working by 2013.
More news to come on this important issue in the coming days as the commission begins to progress.

Projects To Watch In The Coming Year

It’s been a busy time in Renasia of late, and as such, there has been little in the way of updates to the paper. But here we are, back and in a glorious new year, with a plenty of interesting tidbits and news of projects of the new year. So, without further ado, here are the top five projects for the next year in Renasia:

Renasian Foundry Project:
The Renasian Foundry Project is an initiative to set up a foundry for us by Renasia for melting copper, aluminium and other such metals. It will be able to create bronze, brass and duralumin. These will be employed in casting items for sale, for use by RenTech Spatial Division or for use by the reformed Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Reform:
At current, the Renasian Armed Forces are ill equipped and not trained to the extent they should be. Should they thus be called upon the protect the nation, we might find ourselves slightly pressed to perform successfully in a combat campaign.
Thus, it has been decided that Renasian Armed Forces will begin training in spring, working with Renasian Foreign Legion members, to train up into an elite unit.
Any members who are deemed to have reached elite status will be receiving the new “Yellow Bandana”, a yellow fabric bandana, as the name implies, with the “Yellow Sign” on it, inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft.

The "Yellow Sign" which will feature on elite bandanas.

Hwacha:
The Hwacha, as it is known, is a 15th century weapon which acted as a primitive rocket launcher pod. Whilst traditional Hwacha fired typically 200 arrows or projectiles, the Renasian models will be fire and recover devices consisting of 25 projectiles.
In a separate difference set, the Renasia projectiles will not be sharp, but blunted, and will not be fired by black powder, but the much cheaper zinc sulfur mixture, which creates a blistering acceleration and thick smoke.
The weapon will be part of the reforms to the military.

Seen above is the launch of a traditional Hwacha, which bears more than a passing resemblance to its Renasia counterpart design

Pesochal and rockets:
Renasia is yet to really capitalise on it’s knowledge or rocketry in a meaningful manner. But this year there is one word on every RenTech engineers lips, and they hope to put it on everyone else’s.
Pesochal, or more correctly, PeSoChAl, is being dubbed a candy composite, and it combined features of the two most popular amateur rocket fuels currently in use. Like a composite, its main fuel is the energetic aluminium powder, like that used in the solid rocket boosters (SRBs) of space shuttle fame. Like those incredibly powerful lifters, it also uses a chlorate (VII) oxidizer, albeit a potassium rather than ammonium chlorate (VII).
Unlike composite fuels however, it uses a sugar alcohol based binder, which is something which is a key feature in quite a few r-candy based propellants. Unlike both composites and candies, it also features a highly energetic booster, the identity of which will only be made known to certain micronations should they wish.

Renasian Cruiser X:
Renasia has for a long time lacked any form of transport to call it’s own, and especially lacked any form of water craft. Now, however, Renasia may be acquiring a soft inflatable boat.
This boat will be given a small motor, and possibly detachable side pontoons, to which two weapons platforms maybe be added to bear the new small Hwacha model, or to hold added fuel to increase range.
It should be a nimble and well equipped vehicle, and should be able to give Renasian military an added edge, and added mobility.

That’s a wrap for this post, and introduction to our projects for the coming year. Keep your eyes peeled, and your ear to the ground. That way, you might be able to evade the Hwacha fire.

Happy New Year to all, may it be prosperous for you.

Zealandian Politics and a Sunshine State

In the most recent Zealandian Elections, the Socialist Unity Party of Zealandia won a majority. Not exactly a groundbreaking sentence. There are plenty of socialists in Zealandia, and they thus make up a not insubstantial section of the electorate. Yet, it seems, as any time Zealandia holds elections, accusations of corruption abounds.

We, in Renasia, can see why. Zealandia lacks an independent electoral committee, and it dearly needs one. This however is not a basis for repeated accusations. Certainly not in the manner which have been seen from the newly renamed Reform Party. This is exactly the kind of politically motivated disrespect that should not be tolerated by anyone, and is not by Renasia.

We are able, as mentioned above, to see their view. We admit that there is a small possibility the elections were rigged. But without evidence past circumstantial, the actions of M. Anderson are inexcusable.

We believe the Reform party should focus on honest political action to attempt to alter the electoral position, and we shall support them on this issue. But we will not take party to such heinous political and personal assaults. I leave you with a quote from M. Anderson, to emphasize my point:

Wonder why the SUPZ always wins? I’m not giving up, Joe. I will unseat you no matter how hard I have to work to do it… If the SUPZ wasn’t full of corrupt shitheads with their own interests at heart I might listen.

In Renasian News, possible plans for a project have been suggested for the coming months, as part of Renasia’s funding reform, to replace previously militaristic projects, with those more citizen minded.

As such, RenTech will be looking into energy production technology. A small, 50W wind turbine, research into dye-sensitized solar cells and the production of aluminium air batteries are all subjects that will be looked at during the project, which is to start next February. It is rumoured these projects will be part of future Renasian economic developments.

Renasian Locus: Founding and recent news.

For the first time since early January 2009, since the dis-establishment of Serious Business, the Scientopian sector, currently Technocratic Renasia, has an established news service.

Renasian Locus will serve as the primary source of news for Renasian and foreign micronationalists with interest in Renasian affairs. We here at Renasian Locus look forward to presenting you with a fine news coverage of both Renasian and Foreign affairs for many months, and hopefully years, to come.

This week in Renasia, a draft of the prospective constitution, set to be signed into law in the coming months, has been released. The nearly five thousand word document outlines the fundamental structure of the state and the rights of its citizens, establishing a new legislo-executive model of governance.

Micronationalists from other nations will also be allowed to join Renasia for the first time, following the lifting of the previous prohibition. Imperator Tierney has been quoted as saying

“I think it is vital we begin to attract more citizens, whether they are micronationalists already or not, to revitalise our nation.”

Work continues on the economic plan to help get the Renasian Treasury off the ground, an effort which is scheduled to be put into action within the next four to six months. The plan, designed, among other things, to bring funds to RenTech, Renasia’s technology development agency, and to pay politicians, has been in the works since the beginning of October, and hopes are high that it will soon be ready for release.
